- How to find a mod when you don't know its name
You remember what the mod did, not what it's called. How to search Nexus, Thunderstore, Modrinth, CurseForge and the Steam Workshop by what a mod does, how to ask on Reddit, and what to do when all of that fails.

Common questions
- Is there a Valheim mod to keep your items when you die?
Yes, but “keep inventory” should mean that your items are still on your character after respawning. ZenPlayer documents a Drop On Death setting of None for that result. TombstoneLock only controls who can open the grave, and AzuSkillTweaks only changes skill loss; neither prevents inventory drops.
- How do you carry ore and metal through portals in Valheim?
Vanilla blocks copper, tin, iron and other metals from portals on purpose, so moving ore needs a mod that lifts that specific restriction. TeleportEverything is the one whose README documents transporting ores, ingots and carts. TargetPortal and XPortal solve a different problem — they replace tag pairing with a destination list — and neither claims to carry metals.
- Is there a Valheim mod to increase inventory slots?
Yes. AzuExtendedPlayerInventory can add configurable rows to the main inventory, ExtraSlots focuses on dedicated equipment, food, ammo, utility, and quick slots, and AdventureBackpacks adds wearable storage with its own configurable grid. Choose one inventory framework rather than stacking incompatible managers.
- Are there any mods to remove the weight limit in Valheim?
There are three different approaches, and they are not interchangeable. PackHorse adds a skill that raises maximum carry weight as you level it. AllTheBases edits the game's base values, including carry weight, directly. ItemStacks attacks the problem from the other side by cutting item weight and raising stack sizes.
- How do you craft using materials from nearby chests in Valheim?
Install AzuCraftyBoxes when you want recipes and building pieces to consume materials from nearby containers instead of your character inventory. Set a sensible pull radius, then use its YAML rules to exclude reserved items or whole containers; quick-stack and auto-store mods solve a different direction of item movement.
- Is there a Valheim mod to save and copy buildings (blueprints)?
Yes. PlanBuild adds two separate tools: a Blueprint Rune that copies, saves and shares a structure as a file, and a Plan Hammer that places a structure as an unbuilt plan you fill with materials later. OdinArchitect is not a blueprint mod — it adds new pieces to build with, which is a different request that often gets asked in the same sentence.
- How do you plant a whole field at once in Valheim?
Choose one of two incompatible alternatives. PlantEasily gives you direct row-and-column grid planting plus optional bulk harvesting immediately. Smoothbrain's Farming unlocks planting and harvesting multiple crops at skill level 20 as part of its progression system. Do not install PlantEasily and Farming together.
- Is there a Valheim mod to repair all items automatically?
Yes, though it is one click rather than none. AutoRepair repairs everything it can from your inventory when you interact with a workbench, instead of making you press the repair hammer once per item. It deliberately keeps vanilla's rule that a low-level station cannot repair higher-tier gear.
- Is there a Valheim mod to auto pick up items and loot?
Valheim already picks items up automatically when you walk over them, so what these mods actually change is the radius and what gets ignored. SmartPickup adds a Smart mode that only collects items already in your inventory, AutoPickupIgnorer maintains a block list, and SuperConfigurablePickupRadius just widens the range.
- How do you reveal the whole map in Valheim?
Set expectations first: the maintained Valheim mods cover uncovering the map faster and sharing what is already uncovered, not unfogging the world in one click. CartographySkill widens the radius you reveal as you travel, ServerSideMap moves exploration to the server so everyone shares it, and Better Cartography Table controls that sharing per pin.
- Are there any mods to stop base raids and night attacks in Valheim?
These are two different systems, which is why one mod rarely fixes both complaints. Custom Raids controls the scripted raid events — the ground-is-shaking kind — and can switch them off entirely. Ordinary enemies wandering in at night come from the world spawners, which is what Spawn That configures.
- Is there a Valheim mod to speed up smelting and crafting?
Work out which half of the wait bothers you. If the process itself is too slow or holds too little, Conversion Size & Speed and BetterSmelting change capacity and speed. If the problem is walking back to reload coal and ore, Automatic Fuel and LazyVikings feed the stations for you.
- Are there any mods to increase stack size in Valheim?
Yes. ItemStacks is the established option: its documented defaults multiply stack size by 10 and item weight by 0.1, with per-item overrides for both. Before installing it on a long-running world, read the warning below — reducing a stack size later, or loading the world without the mod, destroys items sitting above the new limit.
- How do you play Valheim with more than 10 players?
Valheim caps a session at 10 players, and MaxPlayerCount raises it. The useful part is that its README states it is only required on the server: set the value there and players join with an unmodded game, no matching install and no version mismatch to debug.
- Is there a Valheim mod to show enemy health bars and damage numbers?
Health values, yes. Enhuddlement extends Valheim's existing enemy HUD and can print the health number inside the bar, alongside control over the bar's size and colours, boss bars and enemy level display. Floating per-hit damage numbers are a different feature, and we did not find a maintained Valheim mod that adds them — see the note below before you go looking.
- Is there a Valheim mod to reduce stamina use?
Name the activity where the bar runs out and the choice makes itself. NoStamCosts removes the cost of hammer, hoe and cultivator work. SpeedyPaths cuts sprint drain when you travel on paths and floors. Endurance raises maximum stamina and regeneration as a skill, and Evasion covers dodging specifically.
- How do you use BepInEx Configuration Manager in Valheim?
Install Official BepInEx ConfigurationManager in the same r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager profile as your Valheim mods, then launch the game with Start modded and press F1 in game. The panel only lists plugins that actually loaded and settings they expose through BepInEx Config; it cannot configure a missing or incompatible mod.

Common questions
- How can I loot nearby corpses and containers from one list?
Proximity Inventory puts nearby corpses and containers into one list so you can take items without opening each inventory. It does not add carry weight or backpack slots. The separate FIXED Proximity Inventory listing tells you to use this original item instead.
- How can I unload loot into the right containers?
Manage Containers files items into containers after you tell each container what it accepts. It does not decide your storage plan for you. The old 42.13 compatibility patch says it is no longer required.
- How can I keep skills after dying?
You can keep practiced skills without keeping the character. Skill Recovery Journal records skills in a craftable journal that a new character can read. Keep Skill Level keeps the levels instead of asking you to write them down first. Neither one leaves your bag on the body.
- How can I find recipes from the materials I have?
Neat Crafting adds search and filters to the Build 42 crafting menu so you can work from an item you already have. It needs Neat UI Framework. It does not add a new set of buildable furniture.
- How can I pry locked doors without a huge quality-of-life pack?
You can pry with a crowbar without taking on every old convenience mod. ST Additions - Pry Open is the narrow item: a crowbar, a locked door. Common Sense for B42.20+ also pries, and it adds other tool actions. Do not enable an older Common Sense underneath that branch.
- How can I live inside an RV on Build 42?
Project RV Interior for Build 42 adds interiors you can enter, so the vehicle can hold furniture and supplies. Project RV Interior Rebase is a rewrite aimed at multiplayer. It is not a drop-in: the author says it does not keep original saves or every addon.
- How can I repair car parts instead of scrapping the car?
Vehicle Repair Overhaul expands how you repair and take apart vehicle parts, so a bad seat or trunk is not an automatic reason to abandon the car. You still spend materials and skill. The Workshop page states B41 and B42 support, including multiplayer, and it showed an update on 29 September 2026.
- How can I armor vanilla cars?
You can add armor to cars the game already spawns. That takes more than one Workshop item. Standardized Vehicle Upgrades 3 - Core - B42 is the framework. The vanilla addon is the piece for vanilla cars, and its dependencies are not one list for every build. Vehicle Armor Crafting is a separate Build 42 crafting route.
- How can cleared towns fill back in from somewhere else?
Wandering Zombies moves zombies that are already in the world. The author says it supports B42 multiplayer, the timing can be configured, and it does not spawn new zombies. Turning respawn off in the sandbox is not this. Respawn creates new zombies. Migration moves existing ones.
- What replaces Brita's Weapon Pack on Build 42?
The original Brita's Weapon Pack does not promise Build 42 fixes. Brita's Weapon Pack B42 Unofficial Port is a different Workshop item. It is not the original author continuing the pack. Read that port's page for the exact build, and do not treat a dependency name as proof that multiplayer works.

Common questions
- How can I improve Minecraft FPS with Sodium?
Sodium is a good starting point when Minecraft Java Edition feels choppy while you move or turn the camera. It improves client rendering. Choose a file for your exact Minecraft version and loader; if you also use Iris, follow Iris’s Sodium dependency requirement.
- How can I use shader packs with Iris?
Install Iris, the Sodium version it requires and a shader pack that supports your setup. Iris loads the pack; it does not include the lighting effects by itself. This guide is for Minecraft Java Edition.
- How can I look up crafting recipes and item uses with JEI?
Just Enough Items, usually called JEI, lets you search items, view their recipes and check what an ingredient can make. In the default controls, hover over an item and press R for recipes or U for uses. Multiplayer installation requirements depend on your Minecraft version.
- How can I identify blocks and entities in Minecraft?
Jade adds an information overlay for the block or entity under your crosshair in Minecraft Java Edition. Basic identification can work on the client alone. Information such as container contents or beehive details needs server support, and some mod-specific displays need an additional integration.
- How can I add a minimap and waypoints to Minecraft?
Xaero’s Minimap adds a corner map and saved waypoints to Minecraft Java Edition. Install the release for your game version and loader, then use the default B key to mark a location. On a multiplayer server, check its map and radar rules before choosing an edition.
- How can I see food saturation and hunger values in Minecraft?
AppleSkin shows food information that Minecraft Java Edition normally leaves out of the interface, including saturation and food-value previews. Install it on your client for the display. Accurate current saturation and exhaustion information in multiplayer also requires server support.
- How can I move Minecraft inventory items more quickly?
Mouse Tweaks adds dragging and mouse-wheel controls to Minecraft Java Edition inventories. It is useful when you keep moving materials between your backpack and a chest. Install it on the client for your game version and loader; it does not need a server installation.
- How should I start building machines with Create?
Start with Create, a recipe viewer and one small goal: press an iron ingot into an iron sheet. That project introduces a power source, shafts and a processing machine without asking you to build an entire factory. Choose your Minecraft version and loader before following a tutorial.
- How can I add more farming and cooking to Minecraft?
Farmer’s Delight expands Minecraft Java Edition with crops, kitchen tools and meals. A manageable first goal is to build a small kitchen and cook one recipe with ingredients you can already obtain. The main project’s Forge and NeoForge releases must match your game version.
- How can I use Terralith in a new Minecraft world?
Add Terralith before creating a new Minecraft Java Edition world. Choose its mod or data-pack form for your game version and follow that form’s requirements. From Terralith 2.6.0, the mod requires Lithostitched, and the author advises against swapping between the mod and data-pack forms.
