Mouse Tweaks
Adds mouse gestures for transferring and handling inventory items.
Mouse Tweaks adds dragging and mouse-wheel controls to Minecraft Java Edition inventories. It is useful when you keep moving materials between your backpack and a chest. Install it on the client for your game version and loader; it does not need a server installation.
Adds mouse gestures for transferring and handling inventory items.
The quickest way to learn it is with one chest and a few stacks of cheap blocks. Try one gesture at a time, then check where the items went. Once two or three movements feel familiar, routine unloading needs fewer individual clicks.
| What you want to do | Default Mouse Tweaks behavior |
|---|---|
| Move several stacks between a chest and your inventory | With an empty cursor, hold Shift and drag with the left mouse button across the stacks. |
| Collect matching items into the stack on your cursor | Hold that item and drag with the left mouse button across matching slots. Stack limits still apply. |
| Move a small quantity without picking up a full stack | Hover over the slot and use the mouse wheel. By default, scrolling down moves items out of the hovered inventory; scrolling up pulls matching items in from the other inventory. |
The mod also changes right-button dragging: passing over a slot again can add another item to it. That is handy when you want to distribute a few items repeatedly without clicking each slot separately.
Begin with the Shift-drag gesture if your main complaint is emptying a backpack after mining. Add wheel movement later for jobs where you want a few ingredients rather than a full stack.
Wheel direction is configurable. The documented WheelScrollDirection setting supports the default direction, a reversed direction and a direction based on which inventory is above the other. Use the configuration generated by your installed release rather than copying an entire settings file from an old guide.
You can also disable gestures you do not want. If a familiar action suddenly behaves differently after installing the mod, identify that one setting before removing the whole tool.
No. It is a client-side inventory-control mod. You still have to respect the server’s rules and the normal restrictions of the container you are using.
Automatic sorting is a different feature. Mouse Tweaks focuses on mouse gestures and item transfer. If sorting is your goal, look for that requirement explicitly instead of expecting a new sort button here.
Check the wheel-direction setting. The default follows transfer direction relative to the hovered inventory, which may differ from your expectations. Try the reversed or position-aware option with a few blocks first.
They address different tasks: JEI helps you find recipes, while Mouse Tweaks speeds up handling the ingredients. Match both to your environment and check input conflicts if a gesture stops responding.
If unfamiliar block names are the problem, see Jade’s information overlay. For other useful additions, return to the Minecraft mod overview.
You can search Minecraft mods with ModGenie for the exact action you want, such as moving stacks, sorting a chest or adding storage. Include the game version and loader so those different needs do not get mixed together.
