Installing & configuring Valheim mods
New to modding Valheim? Two things to know: how to install a mod, and how to change its settings once it's in the game.
1 · Install a mod
- Easiest way: use a mod manager like the Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman — search the mod, click Install, then launch from the manager.
- Manual way: install BepInEx first, then drop the mod's .dll file into BepInEx/plugins/.
2 · Change a mod's settings in-game (F1)
- Install the Configuration Manager mod once (download it below).
- Launch Valheim and press F1 in-game to open the Configuration Manager panel.
- Find the mod by name, expand it, and adjust any setting — most changes apply instantly.
3 · Prefer editing files?
- Every mod's settings live in a .cfg file under BepInEx/config/. Edit it with any text editor while the game is closed.
